A piano concert by Jean-Baptiste Mathulin
Pianist, soloist, teacher. Recitalist. The ballets of Tchaikovsky. A meeting between music and painting. A french music recital from the 19th and 20th century. Through his discography Jean-Baptiste is able to share his passion for Chopin (a dedicated album) and the wealth of his repertoire. L'Âme romantique (piano and violin duet by Math&as). Through this solo recital we are invited on a journey through great classics and revisited arrangements.
INTRODUCING THE ARTIST
A graduate of musical studies at the Saint-Étienne Conservatory, Jean-Baptiste Mathulin subsequently learnt traditional Russian piano with Réna Sherechevskaya, and entering the Lyon National Conservatory where he earned highest honours for his master's degree. At the same time he achieved a Master's in Musicology along with a Certificate in Artistic Teaching Proficiency and teaches at the Geneva School of Music.
He excelled during prestigious international music competitions - finalist at the 2007 Lion's Club International Competition, 1st Prize at the 2009 Montrond les Bains Competition. An avid Chopin enthusiast he was awarded 1st Prize at the 2010 Brest Chopin Competition by a unanimous jury.
Finally he has played numerous festivals, both in France and abroad, among which Silesia (Poland) 2009 was restricted to young prodigies.
Invited as a soloist to the Saint-Étienne "Piano Passion" festival (2006 and 2008), he notably performed Bach's Concerto for 4 Pianos with Romain Hervé, Jean-Marc Luisada, Abdel Rahman El Bacha and the Saint-Étienne Symphony. Furthermore he has performed the Schumann Piano Concerto at Brest under the director Mark Schuster and the "Between the Sand and the Sky" orchestra (2011).
Lastly Jean-Baptiste is the partner of Double Bass player Julien Mathias (group Alter duo) and violinist Alain Arias (Math&as duo).
